Operation Feed Fido - Helping to Keep Pets from Homelessness |
![]() |
Operation Feed Fido is a subsidy program to provide pet food and supplies to families in need. The purpose is to keep dogs and cats with their families and out of shelters. |
|
In order to participate, potential recipients must complete and submit an Application and a "Save and Hold Harmless" Agreement. Applicants must agree to:
If they are not already, have their pets sterilized as soon as possible (low-cost feline sterilization vouchers are available from the Friends from January to June, while supplies last) and until their pets can be sterilized, to not breed them.
Not acquire additional pets while they are participating in the Friends' program. Food will be provided for a maximum of 5 pets.
A home check.

The Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter and Operation Feed Fido reserve the right to deny someone for support. Once accepted into the program, It is to be understood that participants’ membership to this program can be revoked at the discretion of the Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter. If accepted, participants receive a membership card and bucket which they must bring every time they pick up food. Operation Feed Fido food will only be distributed on two (2) Saturdays per month from 12 pm to 2pm. Each participant will be assigned a distribution Saturday and can pick up food on those days only. Food for the program is donated from various sources; therefore, the Friends cannot guarantee that food will be available nor guarantee the quality of the food. Because funds are limited, the program should only supplement the participant's monthly supply of pet food, and should not be the sole source of food for their pets. The amount supplied will be at the discretion of the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter. Upon withdraw or termination from this program participants are required to turn in their food buckets. |
Want to Help Support This Program? We would appreciate your help with this and other homeless animal programs - you may donate financially and/or by donating pet food and other wish list items which may be dropped off at the shelter during normal business hours. |
