 Low-cost Microchip Clinics

Every day pets are lost. How many "lost pet" signs have you seen? Tragically, millions of pets never make it back home. Now you can join with thousands of responsible pet owners that have identified their pets with a microchip.

Every pet being adopted from Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter goes home with a microchip.  We want all lost pets to make it home. We are offering low-cost vouchers so you can get your pet permanently identified.  Vouchers for a microchip will be sold at the shelter for $15 each. Each month the vouchers will be good for a particular clinic.

The schedule for participating clinics is shown on the right.

You can have your pet microchipped anytime at your veterinarian.

About Microchips

The microchip is a tiny computer chip which has an identification number programmed into it and is encapsulated within a biocompatible material. The whole device is small enough to fit inside a hypodermic needle and is simply injected under the skin of our pets, where it will stay for the life of the animal. This provides a permanent, positive identification which cannot be lost, altered or intentionally removed - a safe, simple and inexpensive way to protect your pet against loss or theft.

The computer memory in the AVID Microchip contains a unique number - no two animals will ever have the same number. A special chip reader recognizes the radio signal from the chip to read this number through the skin of your pet.

The Friends use AVID microchips.  AVID registers the numbers to the shelter.  When we implant a chip, we record your information.  If any lost animals are found, we in turn contact our registered owner.  You may optionally pay an additional fee to register your pet directly with AVID.
