I want to give a BIG HUGE THANK YOU to all of the Dearborn Animal Shelter volunteers! Our programs are starting to grow and run smoother than previously, so keep up the good job! I'm always interested in your ideas and concerns about the shelter, so let me know what you think! You can also "Friend" me on Facebook. Sue Clifton
in-shelter
We need volunteers in the following areas: - Spruce up the shelter grounds on August 12 & 14 in preparation for the 'Grillin' & Chillin' Facebook Challenge on August 21st. We need people to weed and clean up debris in our field. Please bring your garden tools, gloves (all labeled with your name), paper yard waste bags, lawn and leaf plastic bags. Bring a sandwich and join us for lunch afterwards. We will provide cold water and dessert. Please RSVP.
- The office, medical evaluation and community outreach staff would really appreciate your help with data entry. The times would be Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 to 10 am and 5 to 7 pm; Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8:30 am to 4 pm.
- We need a co-leader for the Fido Bakery. The bakery is an on-going project through out the year; so there are many facets to this important job. Contact Sue for details.
- Help lead the volunteer orientation program. The orientation is being restructured to make it easier for new and current volunteers, and staff to coordinate the work that needs to be done.
fundraisers
- Bully Splash Bash: Sunday, August 15. We need more volunteers to insure that this fun and educational event runs smoothly. We also need someone to coordinate the Youth Volunteers' Bake Sale. There is a mandatory meeting for all volunteers who are working the Bully Splash Bash. The meeting will be on August 12 at 6 pm in the shelter's administration trailer.
- No Beast Feast: Friday, September 17. Volunteers are needed to make this first (and hopefully annual) event a big success. Attend the first volunteer meeting on Thursday, August 19 at 6 pm in the shelter's administration trailer to get more details.
- Black Tie & Tails: Yep, the October 22 date is creeping up on us; so get in on the planning!
friendraisers
- Grillin' & Chillin' Facebook Challenge: We need 5-6 people to run this event at the shelter. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their canopy tents and chairs to come "chill" by the "water", eat grilled food, and relax with other volunteers, staff and the public in this unique Open House. Even if you are unable to attend, you can help with the Facebook Challenge. DAS have over 1000 friends on Facebook and we want to have 2590+ friends (the number of animals we took care of in 2009) on August 21!
off-site adoptions
- PetCo in Allen Park: Saturday, August 14, 11 am to 3 pm. - Friends' Training Center: Saturday, August 21, 11 am to 3 pm. - PetSmart in Dearborn: Saturday, August 28, 11 am to 3 pm.
Two final reminders: 1)The shelter will be closed on Monday, September 6 for the Labor Day holiday. 2) Please log your hours! You deserve the credit for all of the fantastic work you do!
Please forward this PawPrints Volunteer Enews to anyone you think may be interested in receiving the Friends updates.
