Be careful what you wish for…As a shelter volunteer, I was aware of the “wish list” that allows you to be notified of a specific breed if and when one might happen to come through the shelter. Shelter manager Heather Mehi knew I was interested in a Great Dane and when she saw Olive Oyl, she called me immediately. I have always loved the breed, especially with floppy ears, and when Heather called, it was like a miracle. I went to meet Olive on a Saturday and by Monday, she had met my other dogs, Howard and Baxter, and was coming home with us. I have never had a dog become so attached, so quickly as Olive Oyl. And, even more special, we think she was born at the same time that someone very special to me passed away the previous year. I thank God everyday for Olive Oyl being in our lives. She is now 3 years old and we could not imagine life without her in it.
