charlie is looking for his angelsYoung Charlie was found by a kind Dearborn neighbor over Memorial Day weekend, abandoned and in dire need of help. His left leg was “degloved,” meaning an extensive loss of skin and tissue. According to our vet friends, this may have been caused by an infection left untended following a car accident.
Charlie injury was so severe that his leg had to be amputated. With June as Adopt-a-Cat month, Charlie is looking for some “angels” to come to his rescue. What you can do for Charlie: cat-aclysmic cat populationMemorial weekend was a doozey here at the shelter. We went from a manageable number of cats and kittens to 119 by Tuesday, May 29. With 130 more felines in foster care, this means we are caring for more than 250 cats!

Employees also pledged $795 toward Robin & Russ’s Mutt Strut team GHOSM, which took home the #2 Leader of the Pack prize.
Shelter pup Tessa literally gives a paws up to Tina DeCaussin and Shana Kellogg from Severstal. Plus, their Mutt Strut team reached their pledge goal of $3,000! We’d love to feature you here! creative kids: advanced technology academyIn just one week, 20 Advanced Technology Academy students (grades 6 through 8), held an Easter Candy Sale, and raised $250 for our rescues. “We all like animals and have pets,” commented 12-year-old Amy, “and we wanted to support the shelter.”
ATA students cuddling kittens during their visit This was the first fundraiser the Young Educational Achievers attempted and they took advantage of the fact that students usually head to the vending machines during breaks. Thanks to all the girls and ATA adult coordinators Jim Lundie (middle school principal), Pam Williams (group sponsor), and Suzi Neubecher (ATA counselor). |
